Escalating Insecurity: A National Malaise

The nation’s insecurity is worsening, the challenges are humongous, and the solutions have been elusive so far. The recent escalation of clashes between security agencies and local insurgents in the South East, have heightened the calls for Government to urgently rethink its strategies for combatting the security challenges in Eastern Nigeria and other hotspots like Benue State, where there are killings almost on a daily basis. The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, was not left out, as there was an attempt to assassinate him earlier this year in March, while seven internally displaced persons taking refuge in a Camp in Abagena, Makurdi were murdered last week. Policemen and other security personnel, have also not been spared, as several of them have lost their lives in the violence. At least five Policemen were killed about two weeks ago in Okigwe, Imo State, while others suffered the same fate of death in Rivers State. Norrison Quakers, SAN, Professor Andrew Chukwumerie, SAN

I AM FLEEING BACK TO 1980 – The News Chronicle

I AM FLEEING BACK TO 1980 I AM FLEEING BACK TO 1980 Please, these new rail lines that the government said it is building with Chinese loans, which one of them can I enter and ride back to the Year of Our Lord 1980? We read a story in one of our secondary school English textbooks about a time machine. One customer went to it, paid the fare and asked to be taken 60 million years back because he wanted to see the dinosaurs. He asked the operator whether he will guarantee his safety. The operator replied that he could only guarantee the dinosaurs, so the man must run really fast if he saw a T. rex ambling along the jungle highway. The customer entered the machine; there was a whizzing sound; after a while the machine stopped; the door opened and the conductor said, “Here is the North American jungle, 60 million years ago. Take a walk around and see some dinos.”
