Going into the title round of the BWF World Tour Finals, two rejuvenated, back-from-surgery players, Spain’s Carolina Marin and Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, had managed to build an aura of invincibility around themselves over the course of three tournaments played at the Impact Arena, Bangkok, during the immediately preceding three weeks.

Former world number one Ratchanok Intanon landed a crucial victory over Indian star PV Sindhu at badminton’s World Tour Finals in Bangkok on Thursday.
It was a double victory for Thailand’s hopes, as 13th-seed Pornpawee Chochuwong also booked a semi-final spot after a shock win over Taiwanese top-ranked Tai Tzu-ying.

Taiwanese world No. 1 Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) yesterday fell to a shock defeat at the BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok, while her fellow Taiwanese maintained their perfect records at badminton’s season finale.
World No. 13 Pornpawee Chochuwong booked a semi-final spot after her shock 21-17, 21-11 win over Tai.
The 22-year-old Thai had gone into the women’s singles round-robin match having never won a game against the world No. 1, but triumphed in just 37 minutes.
