The memory of Troy Hodge remains fresh in the minds of Lockport neighbors who marched to remember him Thursday night. June 17 marked exactly two years since a police encounter captured on bodycam footage resulted in his sudden death. The official cause(s) as determined by a state attorney general investigation was a combination of cocaine intoxication and a prolonged physical altercation with police. Hodge was restrained by police and placed on his chest after an attempt to tase him failed.

Houma-Thibodaux area police take part in Torch Run to raise money for Special Olympics

Police from different agencies laced up their running shoes Wednesday to help raise money for Special Olympics Louisiana.  The yearly Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics returned in-person in Thibodaux after being delayed a year due to the pandemic. Though last year’s event was held virtually, nothing captures the spirit like running alongside your fellow officers, Karla Loupe said.  The Lafourche Parish sheriff’s deputy has been participating in the Torch Run for 14 years but decided to try something different this year.   “It feels great,” Loupe said. “I usually ride a bike but since it’s a shorter distance this year because of COVID, I thought I would try to run it. It’s great to be back.”

They say a pick-up truck with two men inside went off Glenwood Avenue and down an embankment, and that one of those men died. The other man was taken to Erie County Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. Police have not yet released their names or figured out what caused the crash.
