First dogs Champ and Major bound in to the Biden White House

Raise the woof at the White House: the first dogs have arrived. Champ and Major have joined us at the White House, First Lady Jill Biden tweeted on Monday, sharing photos of the Biden family s two German Shepherds.

The younger of the two dogs, Major, has been drawing more attention since he was adopted from the Delaware Humane Association shelter in 2018, and is being called the first shelter dog in the White House. The Delaware Humane Society and Pumpkin Pet Care celebrated him with a virtual indoguration on Jan. 17.

Major Biden was thrust into the national spotlight late last year when President-elect
Joe Bidensustained a hairline fracture in his foot while roughhousing with the German Shepherd after a shower, as one does, and had to wear an orthopedic boot for several weeks. But that ruff start to his stint as FDOTUS-elect hasn’t kept him from being honored as the first shelter dog to assume the highest office in the (canine) land.
In a Facebook announcement, the DHA celebrated Major’s achievement, and invited people and pups alike to join the indoguration ceremony, all for a good cause:

We all love a shaggy dog story, and Joe Biden s dog Major has had quite the life.
The President-elect has two dogs, Major and Champ. They will be joining Joe Biden at his inauguration at the White House on January 20th.
It s been confirmed that a special ceremony will be held to celebrate the arrival Major, as the first ever rescue dog there.
The Biden family adopted Major in 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association (DHA). The rescue centre is planning a special indoguration to mark the German Shepherd making history.
They re calling it the world s largest virtual party for dogs , the indoguration will be held over Zoom and will raise money for the shelter.
