The San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2021 with A Spirit of Disruption, an exhibition that reflects on the school s profound and sustained influence on contemporary art and highlights the contributions of generations of diverse artists and individuals often overlooked in the historical narrative of SFAI. .-David Richard Gallery is presenting a selection of smaller scaled studies created by Robert Swain to confirm the colors and their corresponding interactions prior to producing the much larger paintings. These are detailed studies for paintings from several different iconic series created by the artist from 1987 through 2020. They are prepared the same way as the larger paintings, with the same care and precision on the same supports (except for some earlier studies on Masonite panels) and the same paint as the larger counterparts. ....

“Deborah Colton Gallery is pleased to present Rituals of Perception, an exhibition featuring paintings and works on paper by Alfredo Gisholt. This grand solo exhibition encompasses the entire gallery. The exhibition can be seen online through the gallery’s Viewing Room. Installation and artwork images can be seen through the gallery’s Virtual Slide Show and website. A Virtual Artist Talk and Walking Tour will take place during the exhibition. Questions or interest in specific artworks can be addressed by email, phone or “By Appointment” at Deborah Colton Gallery. The Gallery hours remain Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. Throughout his career, the late artist Robert Smithson drew abstract floating objects and varied formless masses. Thought of as studies for his famous “earthworks,” these drawings are resonant on their own as depictions of nowheres spaces suspended in abstraction that hit differently in the era of video conferencing. Presented in collaboration with the Holt/Smithson Foundation as a special project for “Not In Paris,” critic and art historian Mostafa Heddaya wades through the mud of Smithson’s work and his notion of space-time. ....
