(WDAM) - To celebrate National Police Week, the town of Heidelberg is dedicating a city park to two late police officers who made big impacts in their community. The park will be dedicated to Cedric Thomas and Reddrick Moore during a ceremony Saturday morning. “Cedric seemed to love everyone, he didn’t have no special person,” said Ruby Thomas, the mother of Cedric Thomas. “He was our heart. And during things, he always wanted mom and dad, would always come and talk to mom and dad.”

cschuldt@nujournal.com NEW ULM A permit for a Community Unit Housing Project on the 1400 Block of North 6th Street in New Ulm was recommended for approval by the city Planning Commission on Wednesday. Mike Kral, on behalf of M & D Properties, requested a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for a Community Unit Project at the street address 1406-1446 North 6th Street. The project is legally described as part of Oak Bluffs Eighth Addition. The New Ulm City Council reviewed the final plat for this project following a Public Hearing on Sept.15. The owner of the plat intends to build multi-family homes between 6th North and 7th North in the lot adjacent to the New Ulm Diocese. The location is zoned to allow multi-family residences.

cschuldt@nujournal.com NEW ULM The New Ulm Park and Recreation Commission discussed the criteria for developing new parks at its meeting Wednesday. The subject of park development has been a topic of discussion in the city. Recently land became available for purchase in the Upper Cottonwood Street/Dacotah West addition that could be used for a neighborhood park. However, other neighborhoods are underserved by parks. This has led to talks with staff and the commission on how the creation of new parks is prioritized. The city does have a list of criteria for prioritizing parks. The list has 15 questions:
