The Andrews Labor Government today unveiled a record funding package to protect local communities across the state – aimed at reducing bushfire risk for the longer, hotter fire seasons to come.
As part of the
Victorian Budget 2021/22, a $517 million investment will deliver important technology upgrades for firefighters and improved risk management across agencies to reduce the risk of bushfires in a changing climate.
An investment of $339.5 million will continue to fund our Forest Fire Management workers and firefighters – as well make sure our technology, fire towers and equipment stays up to scratch.
A $133 million investment will deliver brand-new digital radios for Forest Fire Management Victoria staff – helping them avoid black spots and communicate better with other emergency services.

GENDER EQUALITY
Commonsense fairness and humanity is needed
I’m a bloke and was on school-pickup duty yesterday – I wish I could have marched, such a great thing to see happening. My mum taught me and my brother as boys in the 1980s and ’90s to respect girls and women – especially her and our sister. So I am fortunate to have lived and breathed her feminism (which today just looks like commonsense fairness and humanity, funny that) and – unlike many men more powerful than me – to find today’s changes afoot plainly needed and no great challenge to my values or self-concept. Thanks mum.
Thank you very much, Laura, and to everybody who is here today.
I, of course, begin by acknowledging the Ngunnawal people, their elders past, present and the future.
Can I also acknowledge any veterans who are with us today, serving men and women of our Australian Defence Force and say to them thank you for your service.
Can I also acknowledge today the beautiful Abdallah and Sakr families on this first national i4Give Day, as we remember their four beautiful angels – Antony, Angelique, Sienna and Veronique – who were taken from us this day a year ago.
I also welcome the very many of my colleagues who are here today. Of course, led by the Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. It is great to have you all here today and I acknowledge you all and the great job you have been doing and I know you will do over the course of this year.
