TALLAHASSEE - Federal stimulus money to help the state’s seaports will mostly go to the largest facilities, which each have cruise operations that are just starting to get back on the water during the coronavirus pandemic. The Florida Department of Transportation on Thursday announced how it will divvy up $250 million that state lawmakers set aside this spring for ports out of money Florida is receiving from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Pensacola Bay Bridge may not reopen in March after FDOT finds damage

FDOT projected in February the bridge would reopen on limited basis the week of March 22 It s unlikely the Pensacola Bay Bridge will reopen this month as planned after contractors discovered additional repairs are needed on one of the bridge s trophy pieces this week. The Florida Department of Transportation on Thursday issued a press release saying it is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the replacement to determine how it will affect the reopening schedule, casting doubt on the bridge reopening this month. Officials who were on a conference call with FDOT just before the public announcement say the unexpected delay was a blow and devastating to Gulf Breeze and Pensacola businesses and commuters. Multiple officials said though FDOT did not give a timeline for these new repairs, they got the sense the bridge won t reopen to traffic until about Memorial Day.
