2020-21 WHL Season Review: Vancouver Giants
Prior to the Pandemic
After a slow start to the season, the Giants started to turn things around after the trade deadline as an improved offence led to an 11-game win streak. The stage was set for an interesting opening round series with the Victoria Royals when the campaign ended.
Season Recap
The cancelation of the 2020 playoffs resulted in a bit of a change for the Giants heading into this year. Forwards Tyler Preziuso and Milos Roman aged out of the league along with goaltender David Tendeck, blueliners Seth Bafaro and Trevor Longo did not return for their overage campaigns, defensive leader Bowen Byram moved up to the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche and forward Cole Shepard was out for the entire season due to an injury.

Prior to the Pandemic
Having been in the mix for the B.C. Division lead at the halfway point of the 2019-20 campaign, the Royals elected to go all-in at the trade deadline as they acquired Anaheim Ducks first round pick Brayden Tracey from the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Despite that move, the Royals ended up hovering around the .500 mark after the trade as they dealt with a number of injuries in the final two months. They were set to face the Vancouver Giants in an intriguing opening round matchup before COVID-19 brought everything to a halt.

Braden Schneider flashes a smile during a practice for Team Canada at Rogers Place in Edmonton this week.
Braden Schneider and Kaiden Guhle took different paths to make Canada’s roster for the 2021 World Juniors.
Schneider, who is from Prince Albert and plays for the Brandon Wheat Kings, just missed out on playing for last year’s gold medal winning side but was able to earn his way on the blueline in his second and final attempt earlier this month at the selection camp in Red Deer.
“Last year was a big learning experience for me and I grew more than I ever would have had I made that team,” Schneider said during a press conference on Monday.
