The state Site Evaluation Committee will decide whether to hold a special approval process for a proposed solar farm in Milford, after receiving petitions from nearby residents.
The proposed array, from a local subsidiary of New York-based Olivewood Energy, would have a capacity of 16 megawatts – about half the size of the normal minimum for SEC consideration.
A community group called Brox Environmental Citizens – named for the piece of land where the solar farm would be built – wants the SEC to step in and decide whether to review the project anyway.
The group submitted petitions with that request, signed by residents in Milford and four surrounding towns.
For American companies that import solar modules from China, including
NextEra (NYSE:
NEE), the cost of those modules will drop tremendously, lifting their bottom lines.
Meanwhile, both China and the EU meaningfully raised their carbon-reduction targets in recent months, while many other nations, including India, Japan and Saudi Arabia, continue to expand their use of solar energy.
Finally, research firm Wood McKenzie recently predicted that solar, which is already cheaper than any other source of new electrical power generation in 16 American states, could obtain that status throughout the country in 2030.
Given all of these points, I continue to recommend that investors buy JKS stock, DQ stock and NEE stock.

(Bloomberg) A South Carolina lawmaker has threatened to block any efforts by NextEra Energy Inc. to buy state-owned utility Santee Cooper unless the clean-energy giant turns over lobbying and other information.
âWithout answers, Iâll do everything I can to ensure that Santee Cooper is not sold to NextEra,â said state Senator Richard A. Harpootlian, a Democrat who sits on a subcommittee charged with reviewing a potential sale.
The Republican-controlled state legislature, which last year rejected NextEraâs bid to acquire Santee Cooper, may reopen the bidding process this year. In the meantime, lawmakers have asked NextEra to turn over communication between its employees, lobbyists and lawmakers and government officials, as well as any payments or campaign contributions made to lawmakers, according to the Associated Press.
