DECATUR â Even as the 2018 Macon County sheriffâs election between incumbent Tony Brown and challenger Jim Root remains unsettled, the focus may soon turn to 2022 as another familiar name is eyeing the office. The answer is yes, he will be running for sheriff in 2022, said former Sheriff Thomas Schneider, who is listed as chairman of the âCommittee to Elect Buffett for Sheriffâ on campaign finance documents filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections last October.
According to the documents, Buffett plans to run as a Republican, which could set up a head-to-head primary matchup with Root and, if successful, a general election contest against incumbent Brown, a Democrat who defeated Root by a single vote in the still-unresolved 2018 election.

DECATUR â Shirley Paceley learned to think of others from her mother, Alice White.
During her 48-year career, Paceley has worked for justice for victims, especially those who have suffered sexual abuse and for those with disabilities. Her endeavors have included VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), End Violence Against Women International, Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council, Illinois Imagines, National Center on Criminal Justice and Disability and Envision Illinois. Provided photo
On Tuesday, she was recognized for that work with the Professional Impact Award from End Violence Against Women International.
Leigh Ann Davis, director of the National Center on Criminal Justice and Disabilities, said she has seen few advocates stand out as true leaders and change-makers the way Paceley does.
