Nominations are being sought from within the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences for an interim leader following the announcement today that Dean André-Denis Wright has accepted a new position in Oklahoma.
Wright, who took the helm at CAHNRS in June 2018, will serve as senior vice president and provost at the Norman campus for the University of Oklahoma. His last day at WSU will be June 30.
“Dean Wright has been a strong leader and advocate for CAHNRS and Extension during the challenging past three years of WSU fiscal recovery and COVID response,” said Senior Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Chilton. “We are grateful for Dr. Wright’s leadership at WSU and wish him the very best.”

In a transformative educational experience, a professor plants a seed in the mind of a student a seed that may take many years to fully flower. Psychology and Animal Behavior Professor Douglas Candland planted a seed in his student, Glen Tullman 81, and continued for the next 40 years to nurture that seed. Now Tullman is honoring that enduring relationship with a major gift of $6 million to Bucknell University.
Editorâs note: This is a letter addresses to the Ohio University Board of Trustees, Dean Florenz Plassman and Provost Elizabeth Sayers. The NEWS received a copy of the letter.
We are a group of Ohio University alumni writing to express our urgent concerns about the proposed budget cuts and restructuring that essentially defund the Center for Law, Justice & Culture (CLJC).
As proud OU graduates, we are exasperated at the news that yet another essential university unit is facing these cuts from an administration that does not seem to understand how central these departments and units are to the Bobcat experience. We echo the concerns raised by current students, faculty, individual alumni, and organizations like ACLU Ohio. Each and every one of us found a home with the students, faculty, and community members engaged with the critical study of law, society, and politics at the CLJC. Since graduating, the concepts learned, connections made, and opportunities pursued through the CL
Dr. Renée A. Middleton has announced her intent to step down as dean of The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education at the end of June 2021. Dr. Middleton has served as dean and tenured professor of Counselor Education for the last 15 years.
Under Dean Middleton’s leadership, the Patton College has experienced great success in preparing generations of educators and human service professionals for service. She successfully led academic realignment and expansion of the Patton College in 2010, integrating programs from the former College of Health and Human Services to better serve the state of Ohio and meet the needs of local and global communities.
WSU Office of the Provost added COVID-19 caregiver responsibilities to its list of circumstances that allow faculty members to request modified duties from their work.
When faculty members are granted modifications, they are still fully employed and paid, as usual, Senior Vice Provost Laura Hill said during a COVID-19 Town Hall Wednesday morning.
Modifications for faculty members in charge of dependents because of the pandemic can request up to two academic terms off, she said. Other modifications include implementing co-teaching so faculty members can be partially relieved from teaching duties.
A guide of possible leave options for faculty and staff is available on WSU Human Resource Services’ website, said Kendra Wilkins-Fontenot, labor relations director for HRS. Leave is available for those who are having COVID-19 related difficulties.
