Inkastaden Machu Picchu, en av Sydamerikas mest välkända turistattraktioner, kan vara äldre än vad forskare tidigare trott. Nu ifrågasätts de tidigare slutsatser som byggt på gamla koloniala dokument.
I över 75 år har forskare och historiker arbetat utefter teorin att den mytomspunna staden i Peru anlades runt år 1440, något som framför allt baserats på utsagor från de spanjorer som erövrade regionen på 1500-talet.
