NM outdoor rec accelerator grants awarded to three

The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division announced the three recipients of the 2021 Outdoor Recreation Division Business Accelerator Grants. The grant program was created to fund accelerators that can help individuals and outdoor recreation companies improve their business plans, hire New Mexicans, and amplify the state’s reputation as a leader in the outdoor industry, according to a news release from the Outdoor Recreation Division. The division received 14 grant applications, with requests that exceeded the amount of money available, according to the release. The three highest-scoring applicants were chosen to each receive a $20,000 award. Those recipients are as follows:

EndeavOR New Mexico Accomplishments And Milestones endeavOR News: Farmington EndeavOR New Mexico, the state’s Outdoor Recreation (OR) business alliance, has announced that the nonprofit has reached key milestones and achieved major accomplishments since launching in August of 2020.  During the past six months, endeavOR has surpassed 115 members from around the state comprised of outdoor recreation businesses and organizations, chambers and economic development professionals, municipalities, tribes, state & federal agencies, students and friends who want to see outdoor recreation in New Mexico become bigger and better.  “We were excited to be the 100th member of endeavOR and looking forward to being part of the Alliance network to learn best practices to assist us in growing our business,” said Chad Gaines, owner of UnBroken Trail in Grants.

Young hikers take a trail in the Rio Grande Estrella Weikel, a student at Mesa Vista High School in Ojo Caliente, grew up gardening. To her, clean water and healthy land weren’t abstractions – they were visible necessities. Her family had gardens and crops at home, while her father worked in construction and sold firewood. That lifestyle, she says, where she spent so much time outdoors with dirt under her fingernails, “helped me learn that there are other things in life than sitting around and not caring about the environment. It helps me in my life because I think of ways to make our environment and lifestyle better.”
