Parks and Rec Director Foster Hughes named interim city manager
Friday marked the final day on the job for New Bern City Manager Mark Stephens, who announced last month he would resign effective May 14. The City has named Foster Hughes, New Bern’s Parks and Recreation director, as interim city manager.
According to Colleen Roberts, City of New Bern public information officer, Hughes was chosen for the position during a closed session meeting of the Board of Aldermen on May 11. She said the City does not currently have candidates for the permanent city manager position and has not posted the position.
New Bern City Manager Mark Stephens has announced he will resign effective May 14. The news was confirmed by New Bern Mayor Dana Outlaw Wednesday evening.
According to Outlaw, Stephens presented the Board of Aldermen with a letter of resignation at their April 27 meeting and the board accepted and approved it during a closed session. At 9 a.m Wednesday morning, Stephens made the announcement to his staff and then sent an email out to other City of New Bern employees approximately an hour later, said Outlaw.
An interim city manager will be announced on May 11 during the Board of Aldermen’s regular meeting, said Outlaw.
