The pandemic upended New York City’s real estate market, and even as prices and inventory start to normalize, one thing remains clear: You still get a lot less here than you would almost anywhere else.
But your money may go farther than you think. Despite the buzz about big-ticket penthouses owned by billionaires, the city also has hundreds of properties that can be attained without Bezos-level wealth. The available number of these more modestly sized apartments has grown since the pandemic, as demand shifted toward larger units that can more easily accommodate working from home.

Around this time last year, cinema fans were panicking when beloved dine-in theater chain Alamo Drafthouse announced that they were filing for bankruptcy and permanently closing several locations around the country, including their flagship one in Austin. Despite the ominous news, the company insisted that this wasn t as bad as people thought, and it would actually help them expand eventually. And it seems that time is now: Alamo Drafthouse announced this week that they ll open five new locations, including ones in Manhattan and Staten Island.
The company, which filed for Chapter 11 this past March as it tried to stay afloat amidst the pandemic closures, will now open five new theaters after completing its sale to Altamont Capital Partners. The Yorkie and Pomeranian mix is a comfort dog for Jiminez’s father, she told the Advance/SILive.com during a phone interview, and he spent “10 minutes” looking for Lola before he escaped the fire himself.
FDNY Deputy Chief David Maj, who was on the scene last Wednesday at 189 Titus Ave., said it is possible that the small dog escaped during the fire, adding, “Initial searches were negative.”

Dina Jimenez s family nearly lost everything inside their Staten Island home after a fire broke out last week. To make matters worse, their 7-year-old yorkie-pomeranian mix has gone missing.
The flames destroyed the home last Wednesday and Jimenez s father, a cancer survivor who was the only one inside their New Dorp Beach home at the time, believes Lola the dog ran out after the front door was busted open.
