At first glance, itâs easy to assume that Ross Talbott chose to pursue a different direction in life than being part of the family fruit-growing business in Palisade.
After all, Talbott moved in 1959 as a young man to the New Castle area, where he ended up building Apple Tree Park, a trailer park that became home to more than 1,200 people, making it, at one time, about twice the population of New Castle was then.
But if you stop to think more closely about the communityâs name, it hints at the fact that it was very much rooted in the Talbott family enterprise.

A 24-year-old man ended up driving to a Wilmington service station Monday after being shot in the leg while in a New Castle-area development more than a mile away.
Officers from Wilmington and New Castle County could be seen around a Nissan Murano, with Pennsylvania plates, that had stopped at the BP station, located at 201 S. Heald St. The victim stated that he was not familiar with the area and just drove towards lights which explained how he ended up at the BP station, Master Cpl. Michel Eckerd, a county police spokesman, said.
County police were dispatched to the Wilmington service station about 9 p.m. in reference to a man with a gunshot wound to his leg.
