Rhonda Britton, pastor of New Horizons Baptist Church, as its new president last week.(CBC) The first woman of colour to become president of Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada says there s still a lot of work to be done to ensure churches are welcoming to everybody.  At one time, Black people weren t allowed to take part in many aspects of the Baptist church and that racism led them to form their own churches, said Rev. Rhonda Britton, pastor of New Horizons Baptist Church in Halifax. 

Maritimers react to President Biden s inauguration

  HALIFAX Despite being over 1,500 kilometres away, many Maritimers were closely following events in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday’s U.S. presidential inauguration swearing in Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States was must-see TV for many Maritimers. In Halifax, the inauguration was a happy distraction over the lunch hour at a popular downtown restaurant. Mike Doiron says the Trump-era didn’t represent the real spirit of our neighbours to the South. “I’m glad this over,” said Doiron. “I think it’s time to turn the page, and I know we’ll see more positive things coming from the new President that now we will be taking that position.”
