GO-AHEAD: The Energy Recovery Facility on Showground Road in Bridgwater. Pic: Somerset County Council. A NEW energy recovery facility can be completed near the M5 following a decision by Somerset councillors. Martin Arkins of Bridgwater Resource Recovery Ltd. was granted planning permission in April 2015 to construct the facility on Showground Road in Bridgwater, not far from the Hopkins concrete plant. Construction on the site is progressing well, with the new facility expecting to start generating energy from burning refuse by the end of the year. Somerset County Council has now signed off on the final planning permission for the site, formalising how much material it will handle a year and how many extra vehicle movements will be permitted.

JOBS: Going at Argos but coming to Hinkley WORKERS who lose their job at the Argos distribution centre set to close should be offered the chance to work at the Hinkley C construction project, a councillor says. Last week, a decision to close the Argos site at Huntworth was revealed, putting 230 jobs at risk, according to the Unite union. Sainsbury s says the move comes after the merging of the brands, and that workers would be supported as much as possible. Now, Bill Revans, a Somerset County Councillor - as well as being a member of North Petherton Town Council and Sedgemoor District Council - has suggested workers could be re-trained for roles at the Hinkley site, among the largest construction projects in Europe.
