THREE young men used an ‘enormous catapult’ to fire packages containing drugs into HMP Risley. The trio, all from the Liverpool area, were recruited into the act and were motivated either by making money or paying off drug debts. They appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on Monday to be sentenced, with the judge remarking how the device they used resembled ‘something like a medieval siege weapon’. The court was also told of the serious consequences that the presence of dugs in custody brings, including the development of a gang culture and the accumulation of debts.
