Steve Rogers of Rooted Family Wines. –It was a long year as time slowly crept by, especially because we couldn’t make our frequent trips from the Los Angeles area up to Paso Roble Wine Country. We are now cautiously making up for lost wine time! Our initial getaway was just a month ago, but my wife and I again heard the call of the wine. Jumping into our car, we made a spur-of-the-moment, mid-week Paso trip to quench our long-deprived thirst for Paso Wine Country. Arriving late in the afternoon, we found the area bustling and electric; the smiles, the energy, people on the street, in stores, and the eagerness to pour for you wineries. On this short visit, we didn’t waste any time to wine and dine. ....
A photo from a prior year’s Honor Flight trip. –Honor Flight Central Coast is usually on the receiving end of donations, but this May, it’s turning the tables to help local wineries that have supported the organization that takes local military veterans on all-expense-paid trips to visit military memorials in Washington DC. For the last several years, SLO County wineries have participated in “Vino for Vets,” a Memorial Weekend fundraiser that donates a portion of wine sales to Honor Flight. This year, Honor Flight leaders want to show their appreciation and support for partners hard hit by COVID-19 and other challenges and will forego the on-site fundraiser and instead conduct a Vino for Vets Wine Raffle. Honor Flight collected wine to be assembled into five “six-pack” collections and are raffling each for a $25 entry fee. Only 150 entries will be offered for a chance to win one of the six-packs. ....
Housing and Development Newsletter The Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance on Jan. 12 announced that the Beckett family, founders and owners of Peachy Canyon Winery, are the 2020 Wine Industry Person(s) of the Year. The annual award recognizes a person or people who exemplify the spirit of the Paso Robles Wine Country with outstanding leadership, vision and stewardship. While the award normally is presented at the alliance’s annual gala, the event was canceled because of pandemic restrictions. Instead, the Beckett family Doug, Nancy and sons Josh and Jake will be honored in an upcoming “Where Wine Takes You” podcast as well as in an episode of the weekly Paso Wine Zoom Hangout. ....
