Contact: 214-695-2694; Why did you decide to run for the Plano ISD board of trustees? SBG: I grew up going to a public school,and I strongly believe in the power of public education. Our school district is threatened by a high recapture payment that might be of tremendous consequences on our school district, and we are, as parents, to support substantive actions to have better reforms and avoid budget constraints and deficits. We must keep improving curriculums and school programs to allow as many students as possible to reach their full potential. Only 63% of our students meet or exceed standard in math why is it not 80% or 90%? Same situation for reading why are we not in the 90%? We can certainly focus more on our curriculums to better prepare our students to take on college degrees. I am father to three exceptional children. Why are you running for Plano mayor? JM: I am running for mayor because I love this city. I grew up here in Plano [and] graduated from Plano Senior High. My kids went through Plano schools, and now, my grandkids are in PISD as well. I have always believed that if you want to live in a vibrant community, then you have to contribute to its success by serving, volunteering and giving back to the community. What are your qualifications for seeking this office? JM: Plano has been my home for the past 50 years. I have raised my family and created a business here. I served on the PISD School Board from 1993-2002 [and] 2004-10 and was president of the board from 1998-2000. Plano students win top honors in all-girls computer programming competition

Plano students win top honors in all-girls computer programming competition Three Plano students will receive paid internships as a result of their first-place finish. The computer programming competition and workshop designed to introduce more girls to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The all-girls programming contest and workshop featured students in grades six through 12 and included more than 300 students and teachers from a total of 47 middle schools and high schools from across the region. The Feb. 13 virtual competition was presented by the Dallas Fort Worth Computer Science Teachers Association.
