Imelda Marcos among Hall of Fame awardees for promoting PH-China relations

endIndex: Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 29) Former First Lady Imelda Marcos was among 10 Filipino laureates recognized for strengthening friendly ties and promoting mutual understanding between the Philippines and China, the Chinese Embassy announced. The award was given by the Association for Philippines-China Understanding and the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines after a three-stage selection and judging process on different individuals from the public and private sector. As a novel award-giving body, APPCU pays special tribute to Filipinos who have made efforts through time in strengthening friendly ties and promoting mutual understanding between the Philippines and China using their respective advocacies and expertise in the various fields and disciplines of Mass Media and Public Service; Trade and Commerce; and Arts, Culture, and the Sciences, it said in a statement Monday.

Debt trap? China-backed AIIB says debt problem due to improper funds utilization

By TED CORDERO, GMA News Published March 3, 2021 8:27pm Photo: AIIB China-backed multilateral lender Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on Wednesday dismissed criticisms that the East Asian powerhouse is using loans to make countries fall into a debt trap, amid lingering concerns and distrust over Beijing’s diplomatic policy to let poorer and developing countries borrow from Chinese banks. During the virtual forum for Philippines-China Relations of the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU), AIIB president Jin Liqun was asked to comment about the alleged “debt-trap diplomacy” of Beijing. As a result, for instance, Sri Lanka was forced to surrender control of its main southern port in the town of Hambantota to a Chinese firm as part of a plan to convert $6 billion of loans that the country owes China into equity.
