Following a short illness, Bill Martin died peacefully with family at his side on Sunday, July 18. A spokesman for Helping Hands said Bill will be fondly remembered by many long serving staff. The Hexham-based care organisation was founded in 1988 by two families – the Martins and the Beatties; Bill, however, did not join the business until the early 1990s after his retirement from Blyth Power Station. After only a few years, he went on to assume the role of MD. But he was also a keen sportsman, especially in golf and played regularly at Stocksfield Golf Club.
