But this year’s Pride Month festivities in the L.A. area will look different than they did in pre-COVID years. Landlord disputes and lack of government support during the pandemic have caused several favorite LGBTQ spots Rage, Club Cobra, Gold Coast, Flaming Saddles, Faultline and Oil Can Harry’s among them to close their doors. “It’s hard work keeping a bar open day to day during ‘normal’ times,” said Markus Molinari, an LGBTQ activist and partner in H.wood Group, which operates Harriet’s Rooftop in West Hollywood. “But since COVID and all the mandatory government shutdowns, it’s damn near impossible to sustain for that long without any real bailout or help.”

Precinct, DTLA s Largest Gay Bar, Launches GoFundMe to Avoid Closure The queer Los Angeles venue is in danger of shuttering. Precinct the largest gay bar in downtown Los Angeles is crowdfunding to avoid closure. The establishment launched a GoFundMe Wednesday in order to stay alive in the midst of a pandemic that has shuttered all bars in the city since last March for public safety.  For almost a year now, the doors have been closed and locked due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the GoFundMe statement read. While we shelter in place, the rent is due; fees and bills pile up; all while so many of our bar staff family have been out of work and struggling. The crisis will reach the point of no return unless we can get help from the very community we serve and love.
