FAIRHAVEN The school committee voted unanimously in favor of appointing Tara Kohler as the new superintendent of Fairhaven Public Schools.
Kohler will replace Dr. Robert Baldwin who served the district for 16 years. Baldwin was about to enter his final year as superintendent, for his contract expired in June 2022 and he did not intend on renewing it. In recent events, Baldwin has recently accepted a position as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Massachusetts School Administrator Association (MSAA), ending his role as superintendent on August 20.
Kohler formerly served as Assistant Superintendent for FPS and previously as Principal of Fairhaven High School. At the July 28 school committee meeting, chairman Brian Monroe discussed the new search and selection process for Baldwin’s replacement.

Members of the Fairhaven Finance Committee and the Fairhaven School Committee are at odds about the move to use more than $700,000 for extra add-ons to the high school s turf project.
Last year, town meeting approved $1.2 million for the project that would change the natural grass field at Fairhaven High to an artificial turf. An additional $200,000 would be provided by alumni for a total of $1.4 million being allocated to the athletic field.
