COUNCIL SEAT FILLED â On Tuesday long-time resident Jerry Nichols was appointed to fill the 1st Ward Council seat held by Danny Dudley, who resigned to serve as interim mayor following the death of Sue Simonetti. It was the first council meeting presided by Dudley and the first in several months in which council members met in person.
WELLSBURG The last five months have been a time of change for city officials, and Tuesday was no different as Wellsburg Council gathered in person for the first time in several months.
The panel had been meeting virtually because of the pandemic, but a majority returned to council chambers for the first meeting led by Interim Mayor Danny Dudley.
Greene County Sheriff Marcus Simms announced he will run for another term in office.
âAs a conservative Democrat, I will continue to have the sheriffâs office always put our citizensâ needs and rights first,â Simms said.
This would be his first full four-year term. Simms was appointed interim sheriff 2019 following the death of Brian Tennant, and won a special election that year to fill the remainder of Tennantâs term, set the expire at the end of this year.
Throughout the pandemic, Simms said, he and the members of the office looked for new ways to assist the community, including implementing an additional shift to help other agencies. While the courthouse was closed, he said sheriffâs employees used a satellite office to continue to issue concealed carry permits to constituents in the county.
LOUISVILLE – Brian Leasor, 54, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was sentenced by United States District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings on January 19, 2021, to 10 years in prison followed by a life term of Supervised Release for accessing with intent to view child pornography, announced Acting United States Attorney Michael A.
