Geoff Neal reveals he cut 37 pounds in a week ahead of UFC Vegas 26

UFC welterweight Geoff Neal lost a unanimous decision to Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 26 on Saturday. In that fight, Neal looked sharp in the first round, but as the fight wore on he seemed incapable of keeping up with Magny’s pace or offering any kind of challenge to the eventual winner.
Since then Neal has taken to social media to reveal the frightening circumstances he endured ahead of that bout. In his Instagram post Neal said he has been unwell every since suffering from sepsis last year.
Initially scheduled to meet at UFC Vegas 8 last August, the welterweight matchup of division mainstay, Neil ‘The Haitian Sensation’ Magny, and kickboxing talent, Geoff ‘Handz of Steel’ Neal has been reworked to land at UFC Fight Night 189 on May 8. with a location or venue for the event yet to be determined by the organization.
Seeing his three-fight winning spree halted at UFC Fight Island 8 in January, Mangy headlined the Abu Dhabi, UAE event on short notice against Michael Chiesa after the cancellation of a pairing between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev dropping a unanimous decision defeat.
Headlining for the first time in his most recent walk, Neal returned in December at UFC Vegas 17 dropping a unanimous judging loss to two-time division title challenger, Stephen Thompson. News of the rescheduling of Magny and Neal was first reported by ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto.
After the most tumultuous year in the organization’s history, the final UFC event of 2020 UFC on ESPN+ 42 is upon us at last. With the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it is a safe bet that the early fight cards of 2021 will struggle with the same scheduling difficulties as the events of 2020, but the UFC closes the year with a card filled with rising stars and grisled veterans.
The headlining affair was slated to pit breakout phenom Khamzat Chimaev against Leon Edwards, but alas, that fight fell through due to the coronavirus. In its place, Fortis MMA standout Geoff Neal now takes on former two-time title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in the evening’s main event.
