A woman accused of murdering her three children has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Deirdre Morley (44) was accused of murdering sons Conor McGinley, nine, and Darragh McGinley, seven, and daughter Carla McGinley, three, by smothering them at their home on January 24 last year.
The bodies were discovered by their father Andrew McGinley at their home in Parson’s Court, Newcastle, Co Dublin.
Morley admitted smothering her children but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, a view supported by two consultant psychiatrists, one for the defence and one for the prosecution.

THE JURY IN the trial of Deirdre Morley, who is accused of murdering her three children, has been told they may return a majority verdict on which ten of them agree.
Mr Justice Paul Coffey told the 10 men and two women that sufficient time has elapsed to allow the court to accept a majority rather than a unanimous verdict.
The foreman of the jury said that they have “some more questions” that they wish to put to the judge later this afternoon when they have had time to construct them.
