Livingston County Commissions deny Williams reappointment to Huron-Clinton Metroparks board

Second Amendment supporters, politicians gather for 2A Day in Fowlerville

What were they celebrating?  Their constitutional right to bear arms. The event, 2A Day, featured music, vendors and speeches from current and prospective politicians about the U.S. Constitution, the Second Amendment and support for former President Donald Trump. 2A Day, which refers to the Second Amendment, was hosted by 2A Patriot, a Michigan-based organization dedicated to protecting citizens Second Amendment rights. Livingston County residents formed the group just over a year ago, but membership has grown across the state.  Dave Pike, a Hamburg Township resident and 2A Patriot member, said this was the first 2A Day, but the group hopes to make it a yearly tradition.

Whitmer and the state health department to replace the plan currently utilized to determine vaccine allocation. When the full Board met Monday night to discuss the resolution that came from the General Government Committee last week, it was many of the same players and opinions again protesting and supporting the decision. County Commissioners are actively challenging the state’s use of the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index to determine vaccine allocations. SVI scores and ranks counties on socio-economic factors like household composition, minority status, and transportation. Age is one factor, and 6.25% of the equation. SVI rankings put Livingston County at the bottom of the ladder for vaccines coming into the county. February 19, 2021 By Mike Kruzman & Jon King / news@whmi.com Mixed support was shown largely along party lines for a new resolution introduced at the county level requesting the state change how they determine vaccine allocations. The Board of Commissioners’ General Government and Health and Human Services Committee held a special meeting, Thursday. There they passed a resolution calling upon Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services to retract the newly-implemented Social Vulnerability Index allocation plan and replace it with a more Scientific Medical Factor Based Plan for vaccine distribution. In that, senior populations would be weighted more heavily than they are in the SVI. The SVI weighs 15 social-economic factors and is being used to rank Michigan’s 83 counties on how at-risk their populations are. Senior population is 6.25% of the equation.
