BOSTON, MA – The Red Sox today announced that Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH, will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday, May 29, before the 4:10 p.m. game against the Miami Marlins. Saturday’s game marks the lifting of restrictions and capacity limitations in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and at Fenway Park, allowing for the opportunity to operate the ballpark at full capacity.
Dr. Walensky is the 19th Director of the CDC and the ninth Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Prior to her current role, Dr. Walensky served as Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2017-2020 and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School from 2012-2020. She served on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic and conducted research on vaccine delivery and strategies to reach underserved communities.
