According to the Illinois State Police, at about 7 p.m. Saturday, May 22, Troy Police responded to the TA Gas Station at 819 Edwardsville Road, Troy, for 911 calls of an active shooter in the parking lot. State police said the shooter later identified as Kody C. Waters, 31, of Dewey, Oklahoma was reportedly suicidal and discharging a firearm into the air. The first Troy Police officer to arrive, in fear for his life and the lives of others, fired seven shots in the direction of Waters, according to the state police. Authorities on Sunday said it is not if the officer’s gunfire struck Waters or if Waters shot himself.

Illinois woman arrested in fire deaths

Stefanie Sanders A Tuscola, Illinois, woman faces charges following an investigation into a March 1 fire that killed the woman s infant daughter and boyfriend. Stefanie L. Sanders, 26, was arrested Monday in Charleston, Illinois, by Illinois State Police on a warrant obtained by the Edgar County State s Attorney s Office. State police said Sanders was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count of aggravated arson and one count of residential arson, Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett ruled the deaths to be homicides. An autopsy conducted at Terre Haute Regional Hospital on March 2 by forensic pathologist Dr. Dele Adeagbo revealed that the cause of death for 35-year-old Michael J. Phipps was a combination of thermal exposure, carbon monoxide inhalation, and smoke inhalation.

Diwone Wallace, 24, of the 3900 block of Alcoa Drive in Centreville Township, was pronounced dead at 7:23 p.m. Friday in the emergency room at Touchette Regional Hospital, said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Centreville police would not discuss details and referred questions to the Illinois State Police. Illinois State Police issued a press release Saturday confirming that Centreville police asked the Division of Criminal Investigations Zone 6 to investigate an officer-involved death.
