President Foster hosts final panel on authoritarianism and Capitol riots

Staff Writer The College held the last of three virtual panels on April 9 featuring faculty members who discussed political trends surrounding the riots at the Capitol on Jan. 6. The event was the third and final installment of a series of discussions on the insurrection. The panel was moderated by President Kathryn Foster and featured Dr. Sarah Chartock, Dr. Jarret Crawford, Professor Emilie Lounsberry and Dr. Nicholas Toloudis. Each professor shared insights from their professional experiences in the fields of political science, psychology, journalism and international studies, respectively. The event was co-sponsored by the Office of the President, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Division of Inclusive Excellence and the Department of Political Science.

Farmers Market brings people, produce to common  Staff Writer By SCOTT MERZBACH AMHERST  Locally grown produce, cheese, cut flowers, herbs and prepared foods will be available as the Amherst Farmers Market begins its 50th season Saturday. The market, which again will be on the Town Common instead of in the Spring Street parking lot, runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays each week through Nov. 20. Though COVID-19 protocols are still in place, with masks required and social distancing used to keep people safe, the market is able to start on time this year, unlike last year when it was delayed until after Memorial Day.

Kerri Thompson Tillett Named Associate Vice Chancellor for Equal Opportunity at the University of Massachusetts Amherst

April 5, 2021 Kerri Thompson Tillett AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst today announced that Kerri Thompson Tillett has been named associate vice chancellor for equal opportunity. Tillett will assume her duties on May 17, 2021. Tillett most recently was associate vice president for the Division of Inclusive Excellence at The College of New Jersey and has more than 15 years of experience in the equal opportunity space in large public organizations, including in the federal government and at the New Jersey Department of Transportation. A licensed attorney in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., Tillett will assume this newly created role at UMass Amherst and will lead campus efforts related to implementation of university policies concerning prohibited discrimination and harassment and will serve as the Title IX, Title VI, Title VII and ADA coordinator.
