Speaking to the media with Deputy Fire Chief Henderson Patrick by his side, he said: At present, the fire is contained, not yet under control but it is contained, so basically it is not spreading to any other property at this point.
On further investigation, the fire was not involving any chemicals as was initially thought. And despite the billowing black clouds of smoke that rose above the Crane and Cave Land in St Philip, the Fire Chief said that based on observations there was no need for an evacuation of residents in the environs.
We need to minimise the fires.
This stern piece of advice comes from Leading Fire Officer Rudolph Farnum as the country records its sixth house fire for the year. The latest fire yesterday, Sunday, January 10, saw an apartment and all its contents completely destroyed by the blaze while the other units received minimal water damage.
The blaze was reported at 4:54 am and two water tenders from the Bridgetown Fire Station responded to the Wanstead, St James location.

A modern fire and rescue service is to emerge from a complete overhaul of the law governing the Barbados Fire Service, Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams said on Wednesday.
In remarks during the passing out parade of nearly two-dozen firefighter recruits at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology, Abrahams said there has been no large-scale revision of the Fire Service Act since 1961 to modernize it and bring it in line with the current practices in the field.
The proposed overhaul is intended to allow the Barbados Fire Service to evolve into a comprehensive fire management and rescue operation which can deliver a modern fire and rescue service that responds to the demands of the 21st Century, he said.
