Thursday, May 20, 2021 On Friday, May 14, immediately following the Government’s lowering of La Soufrière’s volcanic alert level, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles paid a visit to UWI staff in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
He met them face-to-face to better understand their current circumstances in the aftermath of the recent devastating eruptions of the La Soufrière volcano and thank them for their resilience in such challenging times. He applauded their commitment to effecting their professional responsibilities, managing their personal and families’ safety and security, and coping with day-to-day life, even while bolstering the University’s response efforts as its local, in-country representatives.

UWI to ‘Rally Round SVG’ Social Share ON TUESDAY, April 13, 2021, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) hosted a live television programme aimed at highlighting the University’s response to the crisis in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and to promote its volcano relief appeal to support the country. The event themed Rally Round SVG was streamed live via UWItv.
The UWI has responded with several initiatives to provide humanitarian relief to those affected, including its hundreds of students in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a release from the UWI stated.
Details on the current situation were shared, along with updates on ongoing monitoring and how persons across the region and beyond can join the relief efforts to support Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
