COIMBATORE/TIRUCHY/MADURAI: Districts across Tamil Nadu are staring at a Covid vaccine shortage, even as the Centre decided to begin inoculation for all above the age of 18, on Monday.
In Coimbatore, private hospital representatives who turned up at Regional Vaccine Store (RVS) to collect supplies were sent away empty handed.

The Malappuram district administration has geared up to bring 30,000 additional Covishield vaccines as part of stepping up the fight against COVID-19.
District Medical Officer K. Sakeena said increasing the number of daily vaccinations was a key strategy in the fight against the pandemic. She added that 30,000 more vaccines would be brought to the district from the Regional Vaccine Store in Kozhikode soon.
Over 4.38 lakh people were vaccinated in the district until Sunday. While 3.98 lakh took the first dose, 39,632 took the second dose. As many as 1,825 people received the vaccine on Sunday

After vaccinating beneficiaries exclusively with Covishield for nearly a month, a new consignment of 25,600 Covaxin doses for the western region reached the district on Saturday.

COIMBATORE: After vaccinating beneficiaries exclusively with Covishield for nearly a month, a new consignment of 25,600 Covaxin doses for the western region reached the district on Saturday.
The consignment, which is currently stored at the Regional Vaccine Store in the health department’s office, includes 13,700 doses allocated for Coimbatore. With the arrival of Covaxin vials, beneficiaries can now get the vaccine of their choice, said Deputy Director of Health Services G Ramesh Kumar.

The first consignment of COVID-19 vaccine arrived at the Cochin International Airport, Nedumbassery about 10.45 a.m. on Wednesday. The flight arrived about 15 minutes ahead of the schedule of 11 a.m. earlier announced by the airport authorities.
The consignment comprises vaccines for Ernakulam district and Kozhikode. The transfer of the vaccines for its onward journey was completed in 10 minutes. The consignment arrived by GoAir G8 347 flight from Mumbai, airport sources said.
The parcel of vaccine comprised 1.8 lakh doses for Ernakulam and 1.19 lakh doses for Kozhikode. Vaccine for Kozhikode will be taken by road.
