ALLEN PARK T.J. Hockenson was booed at the Detroit Lions’ own draft party inside team headquarters. Of course, that wasn’t so much about T.J. Hockenson himself as general fatigue toward the Lions for spending yet another first-round pick on yet another tight end. They had already done it two other times since 2009, more than any other team during that span. And while Brandon Pettigrew and Eric Ebron had some productive seasons in Detroit, neither was the transformative player he was billed to be, and both departed without ever winning anything at all.

Notable departures: Jesse James
First-round possibilities for Detroit (seventh overall): Pitts
Day 2-3 possibilities: Brevin Jordan (Miami Fla.), Tommy Tremble (Notre Dame), Hunter Long (Boston College)
Late-round fits: Ben Mason (Michigan), Jacob Harris (UCF), Tre’ McKitty (Georgia), Kenny Yeboah (Ole Miss)
Breakdown: Before you ask, yes, the Lions could spend another top-10 pick on a tight end. Yes, that would be three since 2009 (when nobody else has done it even once in that span) and four in the first round overall (when just one other team has done it more than once). And, yes, Kyle Pitts really is worth it.
