Crystal Palace Under-23s have secured promotion to the Premier League 2 Division 1 after victory in a penalty shoot-out against Sunderland in the play-off final.
The Eagles’ victory over The Black Cats means they will compete in the Premier League 2 Division 1 next season, the highest level of development football. Promotion to this tier is a remarkable feat as this was the first time the south Londoners competed at Category 1 level.

A late goal from David Omilabu – his first at Under-23 level – saw Palace secure all three points against Burnley in a tight game at Selhurst Park.

The visitors started with significant intensity, but Palace were a constant threat on the counter. Breaking forwards, the ball fell for Harlem Hale who was marauding through the middle; the defender did just enough to put him off, and the shot was deflected behind for a corner.

Crystal Palace Under-23s fought back from two goals down with ten minutes to go to draw 4-4 in a thrilling game with Aston Villa, much of it in the most trying of conditions.
Summary:
Hayden gives Aston Villa the lead, firing in the rebound from Farr’s free-kick.
Gordon equalises for Palace, nipping in ahead of goalkeeper Marschall to power home.
Farr restores Villa’s lead, converting after Philogene-Bidace’s shot was parried.
