20-year-old Pubarun Basu bagged Sony World Photography Awards 2021 for his picture titled- No Escape from Reality .
As a toddler, Kolkata boy Pubarun Basu played with his father s camera, and gradually the interest in photography grew up through nature, wildlife, amateur photography. As a photographer, Pubarun loved to click natural shots, but the picture which won him the international fame, was created and not a natural click.

The picture- No Escape from Reality bagged Sony World Photography Awards 2021
The 20-year-old won Sony World Photography Awards on April 15 for his picture, titled No Escape from Reality . The picture is a story of confinement told through his lens during lockdown. At the age of four, he took his father’s DSLR to take a few snaps in Santiniketan. That’s how it all began for the 19-year-old Pubarun Basu, who recently became the Youth Photographer of the Year at Sony World Photography Awards.
The competition, organised by the World Photography Organisation, was meant for the age group of 12 to 19 years.
A South Point High School alumnus, Pubarun won the award for his image No Escape from Reality, clicked inside his bedroom during the lockdown.
In the photo, the shadows of railings projected onto curtains create an illusion of cage bars from behind which a pair of hands are seen as if trying to break through. The illusion of shadows and the gesture of hands convey a sense of entrapment shared by so many in the past year.

In the past two years, not a day has passed in Pubarun Basu’s life without him working on his photography skills. “I would either click or process pictures. It not only kept me engaged during the pandemic but also kept me sane.” The 20-year-old photographer from Kolkata recently won the Youth Photographer of the Year 2021 at the Sony World Photography Awards. “There were 3,30,000 entries from around 220 countries. I am the first Indian to win this title. I am humbled by the recognition,” he says.

Basu, who used to be a district mentor group member in TMC, named seven district office-bearers and at least one MP, East Burdwan’s Sunil Mandal, as being BJP-bound. Mandal has yet to confirm or deny that he will join BJP at Shah’s rally.
TMC isn’t the only dissent-ridden party BJP seems to be gaining from. CPM’s Tapasi Mondal, the MLA from East Midnapore’s Haldia, is said to be among those ready to cross over.
The desertion bug bit Trinamool’s Birbhum bastion as well, where former Bolpur Municipality councillors Arup Roy and Shelley Roy resigned on Friday, sparking speculation that they might be joining BJP when Shah visits the district on Sunday.
