Whitehorse Daily Star: NDP throws light on shadow cabinet

Yukon NDP Leader Kate White has nominated Annie Blake, who represents Vuntut Gwitchin, as the legislature’s deputy Speaker and has announced the critic roles of the party’s three-member caucus.
While the NDP has been able to secure several key platform promises for Yukoners, White said today, there is still work to be done to ensure those promises are implemented correctly and to build upon them.
“I am honoured to nominate Annie Blake as deputy Speaker and to announce the portfolios of the Yukon NDP caucus,” said White.
“Yukoners want government to work constructively to address the issues facing our territory and our caucus is dedicated to ensuring that government does just that.” ....

Whitehorse Daily Star: Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon unveiled his shadow cabinet Thursday.

“We have a strong team that is going to hold the government to account and bring the concerns of Yukoners to the floor of the house,” said Dixon.
The official Opposition leader, who is the MLA for Copperbelt North, is the critic for the Executive Council Office; Public Service Commission; Environment; the Yukon Liquor Corp., the Yukon Lottery Corp.; the Yukon Cannabis Corp.; and early learning and child care.
Scott Kent, who represents Copperbelt South, is the house leader, and will shadow Education; Energy, Mines, and Resources; and Highways and Public Works.
Brad Cathers, the MLA for Lake Laberge, is the deputy house leader and the critic for Health and Social Services; Justice; Finance; and Agriculture. ....

Whitehorse Daily Star: Cabinet offers new faces in many portfolios

Premier Sandy Silver unveiled his new cabinet early Monday evening, and it’s one that looks a lot like his old cabinet.
All of the cabinet ministers from the last government are back, other than former MLA Pauline Frost, some with new roles and some with
former positions.
Most have retained responsibility for at least one of their former assignments.
The big winner appears to be Tracy-Anne McPhee, who was awarded the deputy premier’s position along with Health and Social Services,
replacing Frost.
“I think Tracy McPhee is an extremely competent colleague, and she also had an extremely huge role in the last legislative session,” Silver ....

Tracy-Anne McPhee remains Justice minister and adds Health and Social Services minister and deputy premier to her list. John Streicker is now minister for Energy, Mines and Resources.

Premier Sandy Silver and the new Yukon government cabinet were sworn in by the Commissioner of Yukon on Monday.
The ceremony was different than in 2016 with participants wearing masks, fewer people, and microphones wiped down between speakers. ....
