“I know lots of people who are completely accepting of gay and LGBT people, and that includes a heap of people who are Catholic and Christian,” he said on Thursday.
“It would be a misrepresentation for people to think of Geraldton as a homophobic town because the people here are very supportive of the LGBT community.”
Sheppard urged the community to give Mr Abetz’s event a positive slant by opening conversations in their own homes and families on the need for acceptance.
“This is a great opportunity for parents and adults to let their young kids or teenagers know that it’s absolutely fine to be who they are,” he said.

When I was growing up, I didn’t want to let myself exist.
In 2004, I thought I was a normal boy. But puberty’s tsunami of hormones changed everything. When I watched footy, I suddenly noticed my favourite AFL players’ bulging muscles. I couldn’t take my eyes off them.

Screen Australia has announced over $730,000 of development funding for six feature films, 12 television dramas and three online projects.
The television projects include Foxtel jury drama
The Twelve, an adaptation from Bunya Productions of the 2018 film

The Family Doctor, a television drama from Debra Oswald, co-creator of

There is also a project between Mark Fennessy and director Richard Lowenstein; plus director Nicholas Verso, Beck Cole and writer Mithila Gupta.
