State Feature 2021: Kerigan Pollard, Lily Barnes ready to make state debuts

(HCP Photo/Stephen Forsha) GREENFIELD – For both Kerigan Pollard and Lily Barnes, they are ready to compete in unknown territory this upcoming weekend as the McClain Lady Tigers duo qualified for the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships, though both athletes are at different points of their high school careers.
For Pollard, the 300-meter hurdles race this weekend is the final event she’ll be competing in for what has been a very successful and record-setting career, as the senior athlete set eight school records in not only track & field, but swimming and soccer during her final season.

Maple makes it: At-large berth to state for CM junior

PIQUA Daelin Maple’s run of emotions Saturday was not for the faint of heart.
The Clinton-Massie junior went from being elated to stunned then to anxious and back to elation.
In the end, Maple qualified for the Division II OHSAA Track and Field Championship this week at Pickerington North High School.
Competing in the shot put Saturday at the Division II Region 8 Track and Field Championship at Piqua High School, Maple started out with a powerful 50-10 effort.
“I was stoked,” he said of the personal best distance that also gave him the lead for 17 throws.
As Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Florida prepared to play for conference championships, they signed top-10 recruiting classes for 2021 they hope to fuel their next title contenders.
The most unusual college football season in memory brought the convergence Wednesday of the start of the early signing period with the end of the regular season, which includes 10 conference championship games this weekend.
