Column by Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall. South Gloucestershire is home to most beautiful green spaces and most precious natural environment anywhere in the country. Enhancing it for our children and future generations is more important than ever. That is why we have a Positive Plan for protecting our Greenspaces and Environment in South Gloucestershire. This plan means; backing the national strategy to cut emissions and become net-zero on carbon by 2050, preventing the flawed Buckover ‘Garden Village’ proposals from returning and ensuring future development proposals have local support and are delivered alongside the right level of investment and infrastructure. It also means supporting further roll out of electric car charging points to rural locations, such as in Marshfield and continuing to protect our precious greenbelt and countryside through green initiatives.

Column by Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall. On May 6th we have the opportunity to vote for our next ‘West of England Metro Mayor’ for South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset. Its a big job - and at this crucial time, it matters who does it. The Mayor controls how hundreds of millions of pounds of central Government money is spent in our area, and they will have the power to address key issues including housing, transport and skills. As we recover from the pandemic, this role is vital in supporting our local economy in its recovery.
