5/11/2021 City Hall tower will be replaced in major project City officials have decided to complete a full removal and replacement of the Pawtucket City Hall tower facade. (Breeze photo by Ethan Shorey) PAWTUCKET – A top-to-bottom reconstruction of the downtown’s centerpiece architecture is now in the works after officials determined that a facelift for the Pawtucket City Hall tower wouldn’t be enough. Joe Morais, project leader at the Pawtucket Department of Public Works, wrote in a memo last week that the city has decided on a full removal and replacement of the current tower rather than a short-term maintenance program that was once thought viable.

Volunteers start long-planned revival of Bucklin Brook

3/16/2021 Volunteers start long-planned revival of Bucklin Brook Bob Rolke carries two tires from the bank of the Bucklin Brook while Sue Burek, of Attleboro, Mass., collects trash in the background. The two participated in a cleanup of the Bucklin Brook in Pawtucket sponsored by the Friends of the Ten Mile and Bucklin Brook on Sunday morning. (Breeze photos by Robert Emerson) PAWTUCKET – Back in the early 1940s, the 3-mile Bucklin Brook was mostly buried, cast aside to make way for a new ballpark named McCoy Stadium and other development. On Sunday morning, a year after the Friends of the Ten Mile adopted Bucklin Brook, a group of about 20 volunteers gathered at the last remaining section of the brook before it runs into the Seekonk River and Narragansett Bay at Bishop’s Bend. They cleaned out tons of garbage from this 200-yard area originally left open.
