Mary Baldwin University has named pioneering student inclusivity advocate the Rev. Andrea Cornett-Scott as its new chief diversity officer.
Cornett-Scott will report directly to MBU President Pamela R. Fox and use the inaugural executive staff position to expand campus wide diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and resources. She will leverage 25-plus-years of experience around diversity strategies, inclusive programming and student-centered mentorship to provide strategic vision for DEI initiatives aimed at proactively growing the university’s existing community of awareness, belonging and respect.

RICHMOND, Va. On Friday, Pfizer became the first COVID-19 vaccine producer to request full FDA approval. Virginia s Vaccination Coordinator Dr. Danny Avula anticipated that approval would have several implications, including the possibility of more vaccination mandates across the country.
The Pfizer vaccine, along with Moderna and Johnson and Johnson, were currently operating under Emergency Use Authorization due to the pandemic. This is just the final formal step that Pfizer should take, said Dr. Melissa Viray, Deputy Director for the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts. We want this vaccine to be around, even when there isn t a public health emergency.

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) The number of students filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA, has dropped 8.7% in Virginia.
Mary Baldwin University says they’re right in line with state and national trends.
“I think we usually get of new, incoming students between 3,000 and 4,000 FAFSAs per year, but we’re not at the end of the year yet, so we can see year-to-year comparison wise we’re trending downward, but we’ve not finished the year out yet,” Megan Speth, the director of Financial Aid at MBU, said.
