Bowman residents observe National Day of Prayer

The 70th annual National Day of Prayer drew dozens of people to the flagpole in front of Bowman City Hall May 6 for a time to reflect, pray, and sing. Local churches and their ministers, pastors and deacons led the ceremony, which started with a welcome by Rev. Ray Sherwood and followed by The Lord’s Prayer. Deacon Lenny Fischer led the participants in an acoustic rendition of “Heal Our Land;” Brenda Sherwood led the Pledge of Allegiance, while Rev. Mary Wiggins followed with a prayer for the family. There were prayers for the church (Rev. Ed Kvaale), the workplace (Rev. Charles Johnson), education (Rev. Renee Johnson), military (Fr. Paul Eberle), government (Rev. Seth Springer), for art, media and entertainment (Rev. David Werner), and music (Deacon Fischer).

Douglas “Doug” P. Burtell, 96, of Bowman, ND, passed away on April 3, 2021 at the Southwest Healthcare Long Term Center in Bowman. Mass of Christian Burial for Doug was on April 8, 2021 at 9 a.m. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman. Fr. Paul Eberle celebrated the Mass with burial following the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND, at 3 p.m. There was a Rosary and Vigil Service for Doug on April 7, 2021 at the St. Charles Catholic Church it began at 7 p.m.  Visitation for Doug was on April 7, 2021 at 12 p.m. Douglas Peter Burtell was born April 16, 1924 to Peter and Lydia Burtell, in Casselton, ND, the middle of five children. For unknown reasons, Doug was known as Bob to his family and friends growing up, causing some to speculate that his wife had been married before when she referenced these two men. Andy M. Anderson, 43, of Bowman, ND, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman. Mass of Christian Burial for Andy was on March 25, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman. Fr. Paul Eberle celebrated the Mass with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery. There was a Rosary and Vigil Service on March 24, 2021 at the St. Charles Catholic Church beginning at 7 p.m. Andy was born on April 21st, 1977 in Bowman, ND, the son of Marvin and Annetta Anderson. From a young age, Andy had a love for trucks and motorcycles and developed a hobby of fishing. During his childhood, he often worked alongside his father, Marvin, in their family shop. This is where Andy learned about mechanics, vehicles, motorcycles, and much more. Throughout high school, he further explored this interest while detailing at Nordberg Chevrolet. After attending Bowman High school, Andy received additional education at Wyoming Tech in Laramie, WY for auto body.
