The first notes issued had both Arabic and English lettering, with various landmarks of the UAE printed on them. They were similar to those that are in circulation today.

An 85-year-old Indian expatriate in Dubai has amassed over 2,000 foreign coins and banknotes since he fell in love with collecting money as a child growing up in Karachi. Parshotam Mukhi started the hobby when he just 12 and has gone on to collect coins from European nations dating back to the early 1800s, as well as Indian currency issued by the colonial British Raj from as early as the 1860s.
