La Jolla resident and architect Trace Wilson brought the idea to the board at last month’s meeting as a discussion item, presenting ideas to improve the state of Nautilus between Fay Avenue and Muirlands Drive. Wilson is a member of Vision La Jolla, an ad-hoc committee of the La Jolla Community Planning Association.

In one of several updates the traffic board heard at its April 21 meeting, La Jolla Community Planning Association President Diane Kane said city traffic engineer Gary Pence told her the city will install the signs after her meeting with him to explain “what types of signs would be helpful and where they should go.” Kane had requested in February that T&T recommend new signage, citing several instances of large trucks becoming stuck as they turned from Torrey Pines Road onto Hillside Drive or from Hillside to Torrey Pines.

The restaurant’s plan would keep Puesto’s current pedestrian plaza also called a parklet, or structure built over the parking spaces “with some modifications pending,” including a ramp to ensure the plaza complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Puesto’s director of construction, Nick Sandvig, said at the April 21 T&T meeting.
