Barnesville Area Education Foundation announces 2021 Hall of Fame inductees | News, Sports, Jobs

May 1, 2021 BARNESVILLE The Barnesville Area Education Foundation provides funds for local education systems and students that might not otherwise be available through public funding. Each year the foundation evaluates and votes on worthy nominations for the BAEF Hall of Fame. This year the Hall of Fame inductees are Alvia Delorn Jackson, a 1955 graduate; and Charles Jay Phillips, a 1961 graduate of Barnesville High School. Jackson was a four-year letterman in football (1951-54 seasons) and helped his team win an East Ohio Athletic League Championship in 1952. He scored 148 points in his football career, which still stands at No. 8 in BHS all-time scoring records.

Staff Writer T-L File Photo Jill Hunkler of Barnesville and others will be speaking in a virtual hearing Thursday before the U.S. House Subcommittee on the Environment. BARNESVILLE Local activist Jill Hunkler, who has long spoken in opposition to the natural gas and oil industry, will testify Thursday Earth Day 2021 before the U.S. House Subcommittee on the Environment. The discussion will focus on whether the federal government and international community should repeal fossil fuel subsidies. Hunkler will give virtual testimony along with a panel including youth climate activist Greta Thunberg, spokespersons from Harvard University and Stockholm Environmental Institute’s Climate Policy Program.

Jan 26, 2021 William David Hunkler, 71, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away of prostate cancer at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 24, 2021. He was born in Barnesville on January 18, 1950 to Mancel and Virginia (Bailey) Hunkler. Bill graduated from Barnesville High School in 1968 and Bowling Green State University in 1972 earning a bachelor’s in education. He went on to earn the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from The American College and worked as a Financial Representative for the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network for 39 years. He served as President of the Estate Planning Council of Upper Ohio Valley as well as the West Virginia Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

Alana Trigg captures title of Miss Columbus Teen

Alana Trigg captures title of Miss Columbus Teen Contributed to the Daily Jeffersonian Alana Trigg, a 17-year-old senior at Barnesville High School, was awarded the title of the 2021 Miss Columbus Teen on Jan. 9, at the Northland Performing Arts Center. She received $1,200 in cash scholarships, including winning the crown, Interview Award, Talent Award and Casual Wear Award. The competition included eight young ladies, ages 13 to 18 from across Ohio. The competition required the girls to compete in private interviews, present a performing arts talent, and model in evening gowns and casual wear outfits. Trigg presented her lyrical dance routine to the spoken word musical arrangement of Who You Are. The judge s panel rated her first place in the talent portion of the pageant.
