A VETERAN who took part in one of the bloodiest battles in the Second World War has received a special gift from the Netherlands. Wilf Oldham, aged 100, who lives in Radcliffe, fought in the battle of Arnhem,as part of the 1st Battalion, The Border Regiment. Chairman of the Bolton-branch of the Parachute Regimental Association, David Sharkey, had set up a fundraising campaign to get Mr Oldham back to Arnhem but this won t be possible this year due to the pandemic. As an alternative to a visit, Mr Oldham has been presented with a book about the battle, along with a letter written by a student in Arnhem and a pack of seeds.
